12.30.08 - Article

Thought this was a really good article on the direction advertising is going. Its about the flow!

article here

Have a good new year.

12.27.08 - Calendar

I sketched a letter size calendar that you can download, print and enjoy at your desk or on the fridge for the next 365 days.

12.9.08 - Day After has moved

I've started a Day After Recordings audio blog to post tracks that were recorded in the last couple years.

Sarah is giving free shipping on any order until the end of the month over at Bellissima Jewelry. I think it would be a good idea to go buy your lady something nice.

11.18.08 - Show at the Ink Lounge

If you're in Denver and looking for something to do this Friday you should swing by the Ink Lounge Gallery and check out the opening of Locals' Night. The Ink Lounge is also home to the design studio Idaho Stew which is run by Stu and his wife Nicky. They do fantastic screen printing and design work that you should go check out. I will have four prints up at the show and my pal Matt Scobey also has a piece up. So come check it out.

Above is a 9" x 12" ink on watercolor that I worked up last week called Deerman. I've made some gocco prints of it that will soon go up in the shop.

10.29.08 - I've Got a Beard

A beard hat that is. This bear hat was made by Alayne over at Safe Keeping Co. The husband and wife team created the hat for me from an image I sent them and it turned out great. It will definitely keep my face warm during the upcoming ski season. Pay Safe Keeping a visit to check out their pottery, knitted goods and everything wonderful.

10.27.08 - Cabbage

I just got my new book, Over and Over: A Catalog of Hand-Drawn Patterns in the mail the other day and it got me drawing patterns for a couple hours. The one to the left started out as a drawing of a plant in the house but when it was flipped over it magically turned into some mean cabbage. The pattern to the right is of lips and eyes opening.

10.21.08 - Sarah draws me

A sketch that Sarah did of me a couple weeks back. I got a couple newer prints in the shop right now to check out.

I also just recently finished up illustrating a cd for Frank Palmeri out in NYC which you can see below.

9.20.08 - Just Some Guy

A guy I sketched up last night.
My design site is up and running now.
The cubs are going to try and clinch the division today against St. Louis. Its on Fox which is one of the 10 channels we get at our place so I'll be able to watch it. And if anyone ends up with an extra Cubs world series ticket I will buy it for $10 over face value.

9.18.08 - More Cowbell

 Make your own at MoreCowbell.dj

9.17.08 - Patch Together

I submitted my model to a site I recently discovered called patch together. It works pretty much the same way that Threadless does in the sense that they let people submit ideas for toys and members vote for the one they want to see made. You can check out my entry and even vote on it here.

9.14.08 - Fonts

click for larger view

A few font sets I sketched up last month while sitting around. Might try and create a few for use on the computer. Fontstruct is a nice site to build your own custom fonts at....and its free.

And update on the Evaluation model. Last night I painted white over the whole thing which seemed to cover up most of the cracks. I completed the owl lines this afternoon and got a start on the trees features. The owl is only about the size of a dime so it was tough to give it a decent feathered look....but it still looks pretty good. I'm still deciding on whether or not to paint the trees face and limbs a light brown or stick with vertical black lines throughout it and skipping the color.

9.13.08 - Evaluation

I'm in the process of turning my illustration titled Evaluation into a 7" tall clay sculpture this weekend. The only time I really used clay before was when I would sleep over at my Nonno and Nonna's house as a kid and my Nonna would give us a big bag of clay to play with. I'm using picture framing wire for the skeleton of it and to give strength to the branches. It seems to be holding up pretty well but I'm sure I'll end up creating a few different versions until I get the hang of it. One part that is slightly irritating is while it's sitting out the clay is drying and creating quite a few large cracks in it. Is there a way to keep this from happening? If anyone has any tips on creating clay sculptures I'd appreciate you leaving a comment.

8.24.08 - OMG! DNC!

While the DNC is happening in Denver this week I have decided to start a little photo blog of the madness. Sarah and I only live a couple miles west of the city and its an easy bike ride in so everyday this week we will be cruising down to take pictures and post them to the site. There are some photos up now from our trip down today.
Thanks to Josh for the site name.

OMG! DNC!

8.20.08 - FREE

Bellissima Jewelry Design is having one of the most gigantic sales to ever hit the internet....ever. It runs until the end of the month so get yourself or your lady friend something nice before it gets cold out.

8.12.08 - Do It For Dominic

I recently worked on a poster/flyer for an old friend of mine back in Illinois, Mark Rossi. His nephew, Dominic was recently born and diagnosed with Charge Syndrome and they are holding the Do It For Dominic fundraiser to help with the medical costs as Dominic gets older. Also, at the fundraiser there will be a silent auction which Sarah has donated a piece of jewelry to and it would be great if any artists that read this blog would donate something of their own to the cause. If you would like to know more about how to donate to the benefit just send me an email at chrisgregori@gmail.com or leave a comment with your email and I'll get you the info. Click for a PDF of the flyer.

Since we are on the subject of volunteering, there is a great online resource called Volunteer Match that currently has 53,800 volunteering opportunities to choose from.

On another note. It seems like only yesterday (see 1.8.08 blog post) that I mentioned our good friend, Josh Honn had started a new blog.....well, he has another. The Foundation for False Biography

I have decided to keep cgregori.com as just an illustration site and moving my design work here. It should be up and running in the next couple weeks. And Day After will soon have its own page that will be filled with recordings that were mostly made in the last couple of years.

7.27.08 - Worms and Yurts

My new piece called Worms is up in the store now. It was my first attempt at a two color gocco print and they turned out really good even though I didn't have any registration to line them up. I'll have to figure out a way to do that next time. It is a limited run of 8 prints. Check them out here.

There are also new pictures up from the Honn Brothers visit of '08. We ended up renting out Grass Creek Yurt in Gould, CO for a couple nights. The place was really nice but we didn't see any bears or moose which was a little disappointing in the end. We had big plans to fight a bear while we were out there. Luckily we brought a couple of fiesta size Aurelios pizzas on the trip and heated our leftovers on the wood burning stove when we got hungry. Delicious.
You can see pictures of the trip here.

7.6.08 - Evergreen

Sarah and I have been finding some good trails in the Evergreen area the past couple weekends. We checked out Elk Meadow Park and the Flying J Ranch.

PHOTOS!

6.25.08 - World Series?

I had a friend in town for the past six days so I wasn't able to watch any of the Cubs v Sox series at Wrigley Field over the weekend. Thankfully there is ESPN video and I was able to get the highlights of the Cubs beating the Sox senselessly. We'll see this weekend if the Sox even put up a fight or just lay down and take another beating when they play again at the 7/11, US Cellular One Field.

Enjoy this video...

6.15.08 - Invasion

I get a lot of my illustration ideas while I'm lying in bed or while I'm sleeping so I always keep a Moleskine notebook and pencil next to my bed. Last night I sketched this one up before I went to sleep and created it today. Its an 8" x 12" ink drawing with digital coloring and its called Invasion.

I also added photos of our trip to LA.

5.18.08 - Madowl

I will have my new original piece, Madowl in a show in Hollywood next weekend. The opening is Friday, May 22 at the World of Wonder Gallery, is all about Madonna and will be running for a month. I'm really excited to be showing in L.A. and to have the opportunity to go to the opening while Sarah and I are vacationing out there. If you're in the L.A. area over the weekend stop by....we'll be there all night and I'll have some Madowl gocco prints available at the show. More info on the show

I made 11 gocco prints of the image and have three for sale on my esty shop....the rest will be sold at the show.

5.4.08 - Why Now?

Why Now, Frenchy and Head Farm are new limited edition gocco prints that have been added to the shop page.

Sarah and I will be heading out to L.A. in a couple weeks to visit our friends Drew and Adam. It should be nice to get somewhere else for a few days to enjoy the beach, palm trees, smog and sunshine. Plus, there is a Fatburger which we'll will be visiting around 3am one of the nights we're there.

Also, my prints went on sale at the Shiny Squirrel last month. You can find them and buy them here. or here.

3.29.08 - Paris in Peril

A live track from a Paris in Peril show that we played in January at Herman's Hideaway.

3.22.08 - Attack

A new gocco print that has been added to the etsy shop. It is on 7.75" x 7.75" watercolor paper and a run of 11.

3.16.08 - The Shiny Squirrel

Here a couple new illustration that will be sold exclusively on the Shiny Squirrel gallery site. They will be limited to an edition of 20 screen prints and will up for sale on their site in the next month or so.

Friday was the Matter Journal release party at the Go West factory in Fort Collins. I had an illustration in the journal issue and it was an excuse to head up to visit with friends we haven't seen in a while. On Saturday Sarah and I went with a couple of friends to the St. Patrick's Day parade in Denver. You can see some pictures here.

3.2.08 - RGYBK and the Swine

This is a new gocco print that I worked up today. I printed 13 on 7" x 7" watercolor paper and another 10 on note cards. I also used permanent marker to pen circles onto a 3" piggy bank. It was a productive Sunday. You can find both of them for sale here.

2.16.08 - Originals & Prints

I put some new work up for sale on my etsy page.

2.13.08 - Cooking com Bigode

Cover illustration done for a vegetarian cookbook that was recently published. You can go buy one and read more about it here. Here's a little clip from the site....

"cooking com bigode is a twisted moustache of modern recipes and ancient wisdom. the cuisine is vegetarian and international -- indian, mexican, thai, chinese, french, amerikan, south american. the style is personal, relaxed, and holistic. for each recipe the general theory (pattern) is explained and variations are offered."

2.7.08 - Golden Boots

New Daytrotter sketch done the other day. The band is the Golden Boots out of Tuscon, AZ.

Read the article here.

2.3.08 - The Russians

One of my gifts from Sarah over the holidays was a blank wood set of russian dolls. They sat around for the past month but yesterday they got their faces. It is the first set in what I hope to be a series of the dolls that I will hopefully be selling in the next month or two.

1.31.08 - Mailed & Mounted

I sent this postcard into the Mailed & Mounted show at the Anton Art Center in Mount Clemens, MI. All cards are donated and sold for $20 each with the proceeds going to the programming at the art center. There is a chance of winning best in show where your image goes on the gift center's note cards. If your interested in sending a card in you can find the information here. Support the arts.

1.27.08 - Rivers

An illustration of Rivers Cuomo for daytrotter that I did.

You can find the article here.

1.16.08 - New

I have added a new page called new to the illustration section of the site.

1.13.08 - Birds of a Feather

This piece is going to the Birds of a Feather art show in Denver. It is 24" x 30" and original ink and marker. I will also be selling 7" x 7" (4" x 6" image size) prints made on my Gocco at the show and they will be a limited run of 18. I encourage you to check out the show if you are in town anytime during the month of February.

You can check out the flyer for the show here.

1.8.08 - This is not a test

A few weeks ago Sarah and I got engaged. That's right....we are getting married. The wedding will be in the mountains of Colorado somewhere but we don't know where and when yet.

I have been posting some newer art more regularly at Day After Trade which is a site my friend Scobey in Philadelphia and I run together. It's nothing more then some of our newer art and projects we are working on. We are going to start posting tutorials and other art/music related materials on it that we find.

Also, our good friend Josh Honn has started a blog called Killer Commas. Go read his short stories.
